Ah! It's a dogs life

by Simone McPherson
Yesterday I put on my lime green socks and we loaded up the landrover with wire, fibreglass post, clips, end porcelain insulators .......

......... and Lily-Bum, as it was her day off the chain - when the dogs are not working they each have a day off with us, but not together as they get into too much mischief.

Well, once I had my extra pain-relief tablets we were off down to Pikes Creek - the creek is a boundary to one of our paddocks - we were on our way to see what repairs would be needed at the Creek crossing from all that rain a while back? .....

It takes us about 20mins or so to get there as it is a pretty hairy drive - very steep in some areas and then you come across the rocky boulders in the creek bed then we start crawling over all those boulder rocks - fun! - not when you are recovering from a fall of your horse - Ouch - Slower!

Once there - you are in another world - the temperature is so different, it drops and becomes wonderfully cool and tranquil with the sounds of water gently running and soooo green and lush!

......... and all the little birds busy with their daily chores.  I spotted the Fairy Wrens - Malurus lamberti - the Mistletoebird - Dicaeum hirumdinaceum - the Restless Flycatcher - Myiagra inquieta - and there were many different types of Honeyeaters too - family Meliphagidae - there are also the lovely little Azure Kingfisher - Alcedo azurea - though they are a very shy little birds,  their iridescent Azure is just from heaven, I however on this trip did not see any, though I'm sure they kept an eye on us..........

I'd forgotten about how much water had passed through Pikes Creek on it's way to Glenlyon Dam, and seeing all the debris that was left behind........

........ gave you an idea of just how quick water can gather and move and how powerful water can be once it gets going!

FISHING ANYONE? - HOW BOUT UNTANGLING THE ELEC RIBBON?
ONCE UNTANGLED - SLIP & SLIDE ACROSS THE CREEK WITH LILY

...... AND THEN RE-THREAD THE LINE THROUGH THE STAY
..... So El Ranchero got busy with the repairs and I got busy with my orders ...

While Lily - Pup got busy with the important things - like exploring and swimming of course! Ah! it's a dogs life ..........
