... while I deliberate ...

by Simone McPherson
Today we had rain, in-fact late this afternoon as ...

...the skies began to turn black and the wind began to pick up, sending a flurry of leaves across the dark skies, these are always tell tale little signs that there is a very wild and deafening Thunderstorm on its way through this landscape …

The storm deposited gallons and gallons of beautiful water and ...

...the ground soaked it up as fast as it fell like a dry sponge…

… it also deposited a good layer of hail the size of marbles that turned the ground white for just a moment or so before ...

...being swept up with the rain as it ran down the hills and the gullies towards the creeks that had turned into cappuccino rapids …

… then after three quarters of an hour or so it just cleared and the air filled with that beautiful clean smell of damp earth, with just enough time to see the sun setting once again.

There are some of us who do not appreciate all the ear-splitting racket that a wild Thunderstorm produces – that is Lily-pup and Maxi boy they are let off their chains and they both huddle together on an old lounge in the carport – they agree it is the safest place to be at these times.

On the other hand we can hardly wait for the next day to go and investigate how the landscape has begun to respond with all that wonderful water from the heavens and I am sure that the positive ions from the lightning strikes have charged the atmosphere with vitality once again as-well.

The days have been building and building as the Thunder-heads form …

...but we have had weeks and weeks of nothing as we watch the storms pass us by or we get about four raindrops and that’s it … until yesterday afternoon when the heavens opened up.

El Ranchero has been busy getting all the gate assemblies, posts and rails ready ...

...for when we start on the fence lines yet once again …

And I must say that the entrance-way is starting to take shape …

… as well as the land that was cleared a number of weeks ago by the Dozer driver for our new laneway, we have yet to pace out all the steel posts though …

… and you can also see why I have been kept busy with the laundry …

With all this terribly dry and hot weather that we have been having we have had to start ...

...a feeding regime with our horses as they all have different feeding requirements resulting in the band having to be split a number of ways …

EL HERMOSO - PEDRO

THAT'S ROCKY-RACOON PEERING AROUND THE CORNER
Pedro, Rocky and Gabby have been moved to another paddock for feed and ...

...Pedro along with Porky Girl have had to have their shoes taken off – as we have not worked them now for over eight weeks …

PORKY-GIRL IS HAPPY TO SHARE HER WATER WITH LILY-PUP
… Porky Girl has her own paddock as she has to watch her figure …

… Luigi well he is just two now and he needs to be feed up and spoiled which he relishes …

… and as for his mother … Lacey-Lou well she is an old girl now 25years in-fact - she needs lots of fat and protein in her diet so she has been put on a special fattening diet …

...which Porky Girl is extremely jealous about, ah! never-mind – I sneak her a morsel here and there …

And while this weather has been building I decided to revamp the little garden as it was all looking rather sad …

so I went to work shovelling rocks and rocks and rocks, I also raked rocks and rocks and rocks ….. and I am going to attempt to build a rock wall as such …

perhaps I’ve got rocks in my head too, well at least there's not a shortage of them out here …  while I contemplate that rock wall, I think I will have a lovely long cold Iced Tea while I  deliberate over that rock wall - now how many ice cubes will I need? ...
