... we had to rush him ...

by Simone McPherson
During May 2017 we had a number of wild storms sweep across the landscape and we had so many lightning strikes it was rather worrying as they can set the country alight.

However through one of the strikes we lost three solar panels and of course they longer make that wattage, so we needed to invest in a set of new panels of twelve, we were without power for only three days thankfully.

And we had to say goodbye to our oldest horse – Gabby – she decided that it was time for her to leave and we were all sad to see her go …

… though not as much as poor Pedro who was very lost there for a number of days looking for her.  At least she has left us all with wonderful memories.

June came and went then in July we were ...

... looking at investing in some land four or so hours’ drive NW of where we live and we were given a new little worker.

This little fellow who was out of litter of 8 puppies followed El Ranchero everywhere and by the end of the day the owner of the property said to El Ranchero ...

“… we’ll Mate it looks as though you have a new worker for your place …”  and that is how little Jackie-Jackie came into our lives.

July is also the time when we muster in all our mobs to take out the Bulls.

In August we do all our Preg-Testing as well whilst we have all the different paddocks in  – a Vet comes in for the day and checks all our cows as to whether they are pregnant or not.

We then sell the empty cows and vaccinate all the other cattle that stay on the property.

August was also a very exciting month too for we started to paint the Hacienda …

… and not only the Hacienda ...

... I also painted my new/old gate to

… the House Paddock now,

... “Custard Puff Yellow” my favorite colour at the moment …

… and there is even more after eight years I finally got my letterbox !

August can also be a rather crucial time for water here as if we do not get any winter rains it can leave us rather low and ...

... that August back in 2017 was one of those times were we had to bring in a contractor to dig out some holes ready for rain.

In September we picked up another two Angus Bulls to join our heard.

 And were also in undated with some beautiful Spring weather;

however we were also inundated with bees everywhere; which is just fantastic though not ...

... for a curious little Red Kelpie pup called Jackie-Jackie.

Jackie-Jackie got stung by so many bee’s over that month, normally this would not be a problem however Jackie-Jackie’s start was hindered as unbeknown to us we had brought back a ‘Paralysis Tick’ with us from where he was from and we nearly lost him.  These ‘ticks’ are very lethal to animals and in many cases the animals are lost …

… and as for Jackie-Jackie he never really recovered; his immune system broke down and as a result we had to rush him to the Vet’s a number of times over the month of September back in 2017, and then there was the month of October 2017.
