... coming up the hill ...

by Simone McPherson
On the last Blue Moon for 2018; that is until the year 2020 – the dogs and I went on our usual …

… early morning walk through the Bush which is such a beautiful time of the day …

… and it’s usually on these early morning strolls that I attempt to organise myself either for that day or …

… on this particular morning I was thinking about what I’d like to get started, apart from all the day to day jobs that seem to be never-ending and of which are already in motion.

And at this time of year it is organising my little gardens for the up and coming Spring and Summer months …

… I will still plant out with all those ‘Happy’ Pansy faces over our Winter months here as their splash of colour just brightens some of those dull Wintry days …

… the Thai Basil which become quite a hit, even to my surprise with El Ranchero …

… and of course the Kale's go without saying …

However last year after waiting for a year I received my Gorgeous book all the way from California – “FLORET FARMS - Cut Flower Garden” by Erin Bensakein with Julie Chai and like many people all around the world, I absolutely love this Woman, her family and all the others who make up ‘Floret Farm’.  I have been a passionate follower now for … perhaps five or is it six years?

I plow through this wonderful book over and over again and this year I have organised myself to put in some Green Manure to improve my soils in the little gardens … I am going to try some Pulses, some Blue Lupine and sprout the oats that the horses consume daily to fix the Nitrogen and add organic matter for all those lovely microbes in the soil ...

I am also going to attempt for the third time to grow a wild rose that my Mother planted many, many years ago and is still growing to this day along the side of the road …

Unfortunately I have not been terribly successful with my cuttings to date … fingers crossed this time though.

I am still foraging mushrooms when the conditions are right which has been wonderful as there is nothing as nice as having Field Mushrooms that you have foraged yourself and then having them cooked in garlic and butter for Breakfast with a squeeze of fresh lemon juice and that delicious Continental Parsley that I so adore from the garden.

On my walk this morning I also thought that I would change around one of our spare bedrooms into an Art, Sewing general Creating room …? Which it is presently doubling at ...

I was also considering doing something with an abundance of old Sheets that I seem to have accumulated and cannot bring myself to throw out - I'm thinking that I will re purpose the sheets into floor mats which might be nice for the laundry and bathrooms? … Stay tuned for those developments, hopefully …

On another note we have finally finished the fence line and all the gates have now been hung with the appropriate signage …

… after a lot of very critical analyzing, the decision was  made in relation to what type of Signage was appropriate for the gateways …

Oh! My Goodness … I nearly forgot to mention too … before we left for our Seaside,

... sojourn which is still very fresh in all our minds …

… we had a Very Important Delivery … can you believe it?

After ten years we finally bought our – ‘Speed Queen’ – all the way from United States of America and we both absolutely Love this washing machine – El Ranchero is even using it and may I just add all by himself … too!

… and we also got an overdue delivery of some ‘New Pillows’ – which we have decided may have been a bit of a mistake as we are finding it harder now to get out of bed in the mornings, they are just so comfy …

However work is always on the go here as there is always something needing …

… to be done; I can hear that Spreading coming back up the hill right now to do another sweep over the House Paddock, getting the paddocks ready for the coming Summer months …

… and next week we will have “D’s” help again to ...

... get Luigi going with his schooling and to move some more cattle around …

However nothing can get started on an empty tummy … this morning we are having Sourdough Fruit Loaf compliments from our Girlfriends and I hope you too will have a lovely week …
