... which means a trip ...

by Simone McPherson
The other morning one of my very first jobs on my ‘To do’ list, from a number of weeks ago, was to clean out the Horse stalls … and as I started to rake up the horse manure all the horses came up to investigate what all the fuss was about …

… and to perhaps convince me that now would be a good time to organise their breaky, unfortunately though for them I had quite a bit of raking to do … In fact I ended up raking up seven wheelbarrows full, all of which has gone strait onto our grassed areas around the house, now all that lovely top dressing is awaiting rain …

… the dogs however were a little put out by all this hubbub that was going on up at the Stables …

… as the early mornings are their walking, smelling and doing their ‘business’ time or perhaps on some occasions their …

… swimming time …

Now that we are having our lovely dry Autumn weather the Bougainvillea’s are doing wonderfully …

… especially the ‘Red Dragon’ that was planted a number of years ago with the help of “Valentina” …

… even Rocky was admiring the beautiful Splash of Colour against the Autumn landscape from his favorite spot in the shade next to the Stables …

Luigi has been very busy with his ‘Schooling’ and I must say he has been coming ahead in leaps and bounds literally …

… he is a very Strong and Showy horse and El Ranchero and Luigi are fast becoming very good working companions, as in Human friendships you have to get on as companions otherwise all the training in the world would be for nothing …

And earlier in the week when ‘D’ came out to help El Ranchero with some Cattle work …

… they too, put Luigi through his paces giving him a full day’s work moving the Mobs around for vaccinating and drenching.  He also had the dogs zip in and out of his legs and at times bumping up against him – and to his credit he was not flustered at all …

… and my role during this time? Well it was easy if I am not needed at the yards along the race I am in charge of food & beverages which is always a lot of fun for me …

We have had of late to go into town on a number of occasions too …

… we took advantage of the car wash while we could as we don’t have any  surplus water to wash vehicles with and let me tell you that LANDCRUISER had so much dust on it, it was like a big Powder Puff, however once cleaned, she gleamed only to

… end up Dusty again as at present the local shire is re-grading the thirty or so kilometers of dirt road …

Our dirt road has been well overdue for a re-grading – mmm? Though at this time of year when water is at a premium? We do wonder who makes these decisions?

Jackie-Jack is not quite sure who makes these sort of decisions either …

However I did take advantage of a Seedling Wholesaler who has a little roadside stall selling a great selection of in season leafy greens seedlings on our drive home

… on this stop I chose some Rainbow Chard, Oak Leaf Lettuce and some more Kale of course …

… as it is a hardy little plant for this country and I have had some great success with seedlings in the past …

… now I need to organise myself and make some more soils for the coming winter months, which means a trip down to one of our many Creeks, maybe I need to update my ‘To do’ list again? …
